I M S A L
International Moslem Students Association
of Leuven

It established in 1984 by the Muslim student of the catholic university of Leuven in response to Allah saying "Hold fast to the convenant of Allah and do not be disunited".  They have chosen this verse to be the motto of the association.  They have chosen this verse to be the motto of the association.

IMSAL is a completely independent association having no links with other bodies being of political, religious, or any other nature.  It is an officially registered association in the university and the city hall of Leuven.  The primary objectives of IMSAL are:

  • create the right atmosphere for the fulfillment of islamic living and to foster and protect the interest of ISLAM
  • encourage the members to participate in broader activities which do not contradict with Islamic values
  • encourage and help the members to observe prayers, conduct lectures and discussions
  • Members of the association are the Muslim students of the university of Leuven and their families.  Annually there are around forty Muslim students registering as members of IMSAL.  The Majlis (board of directors) of IMSAL is elected democratically in the annual general meeting which takes place in the fourth quarter of each year.

The main activities of IMSAL, among others, are:

    • collective performance of the Friday, Taraweeh (in Ramadhan) and Eid prayers
    • celebration of the two Islamic feasts Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha
    • organization of study circles to study Quran, Hadith, FIkh (Islamic jurisprudence), etc
    • collective breaking the fast in the Holy month of Ramadhan
    • organization of trips and sports
Dear brother/sister,  Islam is the religion of both the ascetic and the worldly knowledge.  There are many verses in the Holy Quran and many Hadith in the tradition of the prophet Mohammed, may the peace and the blessings of Allah be upon him, which support this.  If you join IMSAL, you will be able to learn and teach Islam.  We can all share our knowledge.

Islam is the religion of unity inviting universal brotherhood and one single Ummah.  IMSAL represents this unity of a small scale and it resembles one Muslim family to which all the Muslim students belong.  If you join IMSAL, you can strengthen this unity and this family and get acquainted with Muslims from many parts of the world.

Islam is the religion which satisfies both the spiritual and the physical needs of the human being.  Islam encourages the Muslims to be strong both spiritually and physically.  If you join IMSAL, you would enjoy the many different entertainment activities such as sports and journeys in a very brotherly and kindly atmosphere.

Islam requires the Muslims to be united, to cooperate in righteous deeds and to fulfill the ultimate goal of their existence namely to worship Allah and to be his vicegerent on earth.  One way to translate this in practice is to join IMSAL and be an active member.  We all do that only for the sake of Allah and to please Him (may He be Glorified).  We are all students of the Catholic university of Leuven, and so IMSAL welcomes you dear brothers and sisters in Leuven and wishes you a fruitful and successful stay in Leuven.  IMSAL would also like to welcome the Muslim students in the student mosque which is the headquarters of the association and is located at:
